05/05/26 Tues. Drove
down to KK again this morning with Rob and Teya, leaving at 0500.
Grabbed some breakfast in Damai Plaza and then went to the Samsung
Service Centre to drop off my phone for repair. Then we went to TSM to
get material before checking into the hotel. In the afternoon we went
to the Yamaha dealer as Rob was looking for a new outboard, got the
prices to think about. Picked up my phone late afternoon.
06/05/26 Weds.
Another day of mooching around various shops, mostly without Rob as he
was suffering from a dose of food poisoning (shouldn't have had curried
chicken last night!)
07/05/26 Thurs.
Checked out around 0730 and made our way to Damai for some breakfast
before setting off back to Kudat, arriving there around mid-day.
26/05/26 Tues. Over
the last few days, I've been having problems with my outboard engine.
The other day while coming back from a sewing job in Penuwasa, I could
hear metallic clanking noises before the engine finally gave up and
stopped. The starter cord could not be pulled and I suspected a gearbox
fault. On stripping down the gearbox, I found the oil had disappeared
and had been replaced with oily water! A prop shaft bearing was seized
and the drive shaft pinion had three broken teeth. After much internet
searching, I have found most of the parts needed but there is no way to
remove the blind bearing from the casing, so I have ordered a specialist
tool to do that. So...my conclusion is that fishing line had wrapped
around the prop, been wound past the oil seal into the gearbox allowing
the oil out and water in. Meanwhile, Craig gave me his old 3hp engine
which proved to be seized in many places and I have been stripping that
and getting it running again as a temporary measure. I guess the next
time in KK, I will visit the Yamaha dealer and get the price of a new
engine - I bought this one in July 2014, so even if I fix the gearbox,
it's still a twelve year old engine!
27/05/26 Weds. Drove
Craig to the vet this morning with his newly adopted puppy, to get the
jabs started off. A week ago, we didn't think the pup would last more
than two days but she seems to have picked up with proper care and food.
